Fall Beauty Favorites

Fall is a complex time for my mental health. Fall means the start of a new college semester for me and cold, dark Canadian winter around the corner. While I love watching the leaves change, my anxiety usually spikes when summer comes to an end.

To combat my struggles in fall, I try to take extra self-care steps. Here are some of my favorite beauty products to boost my mood.

Masks

I'm sure we're all over hearing about masks. However, I don't mean the pandemic-related ones! Canada is cold and dry at this time of year, so I incorporate a lot more hair and face masks into my life. My current favorites are:

Briogeo Scalp Revival™ Charcoal + Tea Tree Cooling Hydration Mask

I love this mask for my very dry, itchy scalp. I have red dyed hair so it's hard to find dandruff products that don't strip it. I use this in combination with the "Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment Serum" and my itchiness is completely soothed.

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

I found this sleeping mask at Winners for a discounted price so I had to grab it. I really like this mask for overnight hydration. It is also a nice cooling sensation on my dry, tight skin since it has that water feeling.

Sheet masks

Sheet masks are a great hydration boost. I purchase most of mine at Winners/Marshalls since they are a great price and I can try out lots of new ones for different results.

Press-On Nails

As a college student, I'm on a budget. I used to frequently get my acrylic nails done at a salon in pre-pandemic times. As we're still spending more time at home I have started to do my own press-on nails and I am obsessed! If you glue them properly they can last up to two weeks; half the time of a salon manicure at more than a third less of the cost! There's so many fun ones to choose from and you can even paint and design your own.

They are such a mood booster. I feel more confident when I have nails on, and doing them gets me off my phone, which is a huge trigger for my anxiety.

Exfoliants

Fall means dry, flaky skin is making a comeback. I love to use physical exfoliants for my body and chemical exfoliants for the face. My favorites for body scrubs are Tree Hut & Soap and Glory. For face, my all-time favorite is the Pixi Glow Tonic.

These are just some of my favorite beauty things to use to boost my mood as my anxiety and depression gets worse in the dark, cold seasons. Routine is so important for anxiety. If buying possibly overpriced beauty products for your routine make you feel better, that's okay! They certainly make me feel better.

Take care of your mind & body however you see fit.
